Packing for a Day at the Beach

Whether you live close to the coast or you are planning out the perfect seaside vacation, nothing beats a day spent at the beach.  Soaking up the sun, splashing in the ocean and relaxing; there is no better way to spend a break than with a day on the golden sands.

If you have booked a break in one of the fantastic hotels in Ocean City Maryland then you will be just a short walking distance from one of the most picturesque beaches in the area and the ideal place to spend the day.  Whether you want to get involved in the water sports which abound here or simply grab your latest book and stretch out on the sands, there is no better way to kick off a vacation in Ocean City.  Just be sure to follow this list of essential items to bring with you to ensure you have the best experience possible:-

A Beach Bag

You are going to need something to carry all your bits and pieces in so make sure you pack a decent sized beach bag, preferably one with different compartments so you can easily separate your gear.  Pack a clear plastic bag which is easy to reseal for important items such as keys and phones as well to keep them sand free throughout the day.

Drinks and Snacks

Hydration is one of the most important things to bear in mind when planning for a day in the sun.  Even if you also bring a parasol to give you some shade, the heat alone can cause some serious dehydration so make sure you pack plenty of water to tide you over.  There are a number of waterfront cafes and beach shacks which sell refreshments if you get hungry or need to stock up on more drinks but by planning ahead you won’t be caught out with no water to drink throughout the day.

Towels and Blankets

If you are planning on going in the water then we recommend bringing a blanket to use for sunbathing and sitting on the beach and a separate towel for drying off.  It’s never a pleasant experience lying on a damp towel with abrasive sand grains sticking to you so keeping these two things apart will ensure a more comfortable experience all round.

Sunscreen

Even if you don’t plan to visit the beach at the height of summer, chances are you will be catching those rays so protect your skin from sunburn and bring the right level of sunscreen with you.  Remember to reapply throughout the day as well, especially if you have been in the water.  It might be worthwhile setting a reminder on your phone so you don’t forget.

Basic First Aid Kit

Bites, small grazes and cuts and even headaches are all common ailments which may strike whilst at the beach so having painkillers and band-aids to hand without having to go and find a shop will only be a useful thing.
